Zoetis has launched a new equine parasitology webinar masterclass series designed to support vets and veterinary nurses (as well as SQPs/RAMAs) as the profession moves towards more sustainable, guideline-led parasite control and prescribing.

Presented by Professor Jacqui Matthews (RCVS Recognised Specialist in Parasitology) and Dr Wendy Talbot (Zoetis National Equine Veterinary Manager; RCVS and European Specialist in Internal Medicine), the five-session CPD series aims to help prescribers interpret and apply the updated guidance consistently in day-to-day practice.

Dr Talbot said: “Whether you’re seeking practical solutions, up-to-date guidance, or a deeper understanding of how SQPs and vets can work together for optimal horse health, this series is your go-to resource.”

What to expect

Zoetis says the sessions will focus on seasonal parasite risks, best-practice decision-making and practical, real-world application. Each webinar will include an interactive Q&A and discussion around case scenarios submitted by prescribers, with the speakers outlining a best-practice approach based on the individual situation.

The series is intended to support confident, sustainable prescribing, with opportunities for collaborative discussion and sharing experiences across practice teams.

Submitting cases for discussion

Vets and nurses who would like a case considered for discussion are invited to submit details by email to wendy.talbot@zoetis.com at least four weeks before each webinar. Zoetis notes that there is no obligation for those submitting cases to speak during the webinar, as the speakers will talk through the submission.

Dates and topics

The Equine Parasite Control Masterclass: From Guidelines to Practice runs at 7pm on the following dates:

CPD and points

Zoetis says the webinar series can be recorded as self-reflective CPD, counting towards RCVS requirements or AMTRA CPD points.

To attain AMTRA CPD points, delegates need to log in to the AMTRA website and complete the ‘self-reflective’ section within three months of the webinar. AMTRA CPD points are awarded at a rate of four points per hour of reflective CPD, capped at 30% of an individual’s overall personal points target (50% for veterinary nurses).

Zoetis adds that the series is also recognised as Vetpol® accredited CPD, which can be claimed via the Vetpol website.

The bottom line

For equine teams looking to align parasite control plans with evolving standards, this series is positioned as a practical, season-by-season guide to applying the new guidance consistently — with case-based discussion to support decision-making in practice.
