Vetsure has launched Vetsure Meds, a new online dispensary platform designed to help independent UK practices keep medicine supply connected to the clinical team.

The service, available at vetsuremeds.com, is being introduced across the Vetsure network in the coming weeks. It has been developed as small animal practices prepare for further changes following the CMA report published in March 2026. The CMA’s reforms include greater transparency around pricing, prescriptions and client choice, with legally binding measures expected to come into force later this year.

What the platform does

Vetsure Meds is a closed prescribing and purchasing system that allows prescriptions to be created within the practice workflow, with clients then able to buy medication online for direct delivery.

According to Vetsure, the aim is to give clients the convenience of online ordering while allowing the prescribing practice to retain a share of medicine income that might otherwise move to external online pharmacies.

The company says the platform will supply genuine UK-sourced medicines and that products will be licensed and quality assured. Its practice-facing information also says practices remain in control of the client’s treatment plan while being supported commercially when clients use the service.

Why it matters for GP teams

For small animal GP practices, written prescription requests are likely to remain an important client conversation as pet owners compare costs and expect more choice. The CMA has said veterinary businesses will need to provide clearer information to clients, including around prescriptions and medicine purchasing options.

Vetsure says around 30% of small animal practice income comes from medicine sales. If more dispensing moves online, this could have a significant effect on independent practices, particularly those without the scale or infrastructure to run their own online pharmacy operation.

As a company founded, owned and run by vets, we were driven to act in the face of a rapidly changing marketplace,” said Dr Ashley Gray, managing director of Vetsure.

Our mission has always been to champion independent clinics. The CMA investigation highlights a very real risk to practice income, particularly when such a significant proportion is tied to medicine sales. Vetsuremeds.com enables practices to meet evolving regulatory expectations, deliver outstanding client service, and continue to thrive as independent businesses.

Florence Page, head of business development at Vetsure, added: “Where clients are requesting prescriptions, it is far better to direct them to a trusted site to retain an alternative income stream.

For vets, nurses and client care teams, the practical issue will be how to discuss online medicines without losing continuity, compliance or the practice-client relationship. Vetsure Meds positions itself as one route for independent practices to offer online convenience while keeping prescribing, fulfilment and commercial return more closely linked to the practice.
