Petscribers, the veterinary technology company helping practices create and manage digital prescriptions while enabling pet owners to access more affordable medication, has been named a winner of Innovate UK’s prestigious Women in Innovation Awards.
Founded by veterinary surgeons Dr Angela Jones and Dr Emma Pemberthy, Petscribers is developing a secure e-prescribing platform designed to simplify the creation, sharing and fulfilment of veterinary written prescriptions. The platform is intended to reduce the administrative burden associated with prescription generation, improve prescription security and traceability, and help pet owners compare medication prices and reduce the cost of ongoing treatment by up to £300 per year, according to CMA estimates.
The award comes at a pivotal moment for the veterinary profession. Following the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation into the UK veterinary market, new measures aim to increase transparency around prescription options and make it easier for pet owners to purchase prescribed medication online. Many practices continue to rely on manual prescription processes, creating additional administrative work for already stretched veterinary teams and increasing the need for secure, auditable digital workflows.
Petscribers was selected as one of just 61 female-led businesses across the UK from 1,590 applicants. Delivered by Innovate UK, the programme supports women entrepreneurs developing innovative solutions to significant social and economic challenges.

The CMA has called for greater transparency and increased use of written prescriptions, but the digital infrastructure to support that shift has been largely absent.
As vets, we know that prescription administration can be time-consuming, and that many practices are already working under significant pressure. We founded Petscribers to make prescribing simpler, more secure and easier to integrate into the clinical workflow, while also helping pet owners access prescribed medication more conveniently and affordably.
This award is a hugely validating endorsement of both the problem we are tackling and the solution we are building.
