Petgevity, part of the Staysure Group, has become the first pet insurer to partner with Petscribers, the UK’s vet-founded platform that helps owners compare prices for their pets’ prescription medication from government-accredited pharmacies.

This first-to-market collaboration is designed to help Petgevity policyholders make their cover go further by lowering ongoing medication costs, while keeping more of their insurance “claims pot” available for the unexpected.

About Petscribers and their aims

Petscribers is a vet-founded startup in the UK. They aim to simplify access to safe, affordable medication by helping owners compare prices from trusted, government-accredited pharmacies and purchase their pet’s medication online.

Dr Emma Pemberthy MA (Cantab) BVM BVS MRCVS, co-founder of Petscribers, said:

As vets, we see firsthand how quickly a pet’s health can change and how fast the bills can stack up when it does. By helping owners save on regular medication, we’re protecting what really matters: their ability to afford care when their pet truly needs it.

Why Petscribers and Petgevity are partnering

For many pet owners, medication accounts for a significant portion of ongoing veterinary costs, approximately 40% of claims, according to Petgevity data.

By offering policyholders a seamless way to access accredited online pharmacies and pet medications through Petscribers, the partnership provides owners with more choice and transparency when managing their pet’s health costs.

Kerry Willecome, Head of Marketing at Petgevity, commented:

We’re proud to be the first insurer to bring this kind of value-add to our policyholders. At Petgevity, our goal is to give owners confidence and clarity when managing their pet’s health, and partnering with Petscribers helps us do exactly that, without compromising safety or care.

Dr Angela Jones, BVSc Cert AVP (EM) MRCVS, fellow co-founder, added:

This partnership with Petgevity shows what’s possible when innovation and empathy work together. Every pound saved on known medication is a pound that stays in [...] insurance cover for the ‘what-ifs’.”

A first step to reducing claim size

The initial phase of the partnership will involve directly connecting policyholders with Petscribers’ comparison tools.

Future development will include an integrated savings calculator and a streamlined user journey, reducing claim sizes whilst enhancing user experience.

How Petscribers is helping solve problems raised by the CMA

Among its findings, the CMA revealed that:

  • Pet owners can pay less for the same medication when they buy online
  • Over a third of owners don’t realise they can request a written prescription to buy medication elsewhere.
  • There is a lack of clear, upfront pricing, making informed choices difficult.

This partnership between Petgevity and Petscribers puts those insights into action, providing pet owners with simple, safe access to trusted online pharmacies and clear information on how and where to purchase their pet’s medication.
