BSAVA has opened a call for veterinary researchers to submit their abstracts on 'any small animal veterinary subject' relevant to clinical practice for display at BVA Live in June 2026. Applications are welcome from veterinary surgeons, nurses, practice managers, students, and researchers, especially those in general practice, and based on high-quality clinical research undertaken in industry, practice or academia.

Julian Hoad, BSAVA President said: "We’re delighted to invite veterinary professionals to share their latest research with the wider community.

"The Clinical Research Abstracts offer a unique platform to showcase innovation, spark discussion, and contribute to the advancement of veterinary medicine. We look forward to seeing fresh ideas and emerging techniques that can shape the future of clinical practice. It’s an opportunity not to be missed!"

What are BSAVA Clinical Abstracts?

BSAVA Clinical Abstracts used to run at BSAVA Congress, allowing veterinary researchers, GPs, and vet nurses to share their cases and research with colleagues. Since the announcement of the closure of Congress it hasn't been clear whether the programme will continue. However, BSAVA announced in November that they will have a BSAVA Clinical Abstract Theatre at BVA Live, where participants can deliver their research abstracts in both poster and oral formats.

As with previous years, awards are offered for Best Abstract, Best VN, Best GP, and Best Student, with each winner getting £300 and the chance to showcase again at London Vet Show 2026. Of course, that's alongside the pride and pleasure of sharing your research with your colleagues. You can find out about last year's winners here.

How to apply

Abstracts should be submitted by the Lead Author, and should be around 250 words and following a carefully determined structure outlined on the submission page. Authors can indicate their preference for poster or oral presentation, but the final decision rests with the judges.

The submission portal closes on 6th March 2026. All abstracts are then reviewed by a panel, who check the abstracts meet the guidelines, decide on the best presentation format, and nominate exceptional abstracts for the prizes.

Successful authors will be notified on the 24th April and the Lead Author of all winning abstracts will receive a free ticket to BVA Live 2026 in order to present and discuss their abstract.
