Emergency medicine CPD opportunities are expanding this spring, with Vets Now hosting two full-day events aimed at first opinion veterinary teams looking to strengthen their approach to urgent and critical cases.

With a strong focus on practical learning and real-world application, the events in Manchester and Glasgow centre on building confidence in emergency scenarios—particularly relevant for practices managing acute presentations and stabilisation prior to referral.

Manchester event: respiratory emergencies and CPR

Taking place on Wednesday 06 May, the Manchester-based emergency medicine CPD day, A Breath of Fresh Air, focuses on respiratory case management—an area frequently encountered in emergency settings.

The programme covers the full patient pathway, from admission and initial assessment through to diagnostic imaging, surgical intervention and the management of complications. Sessions are delivered by clinicians across emergency and critical care (ECC), internal medicine, surgery and imaging, offering a multi-disciplinary perspective on respiratory emergencies.

Hands-on learning is a key component of the day. Interactive elements include a practical CPR workshop, designed to support teams in applying current resuscitation guidance in a clinical setting. The content is aimed at both vets and nurses seeking to build confidence in managing respiratory distress and cardiopulmonary arrest.

Glasgow event: flexible learning for emergency care teams

A second full-day emergency medicine CPD event will take place on Thursday 28 May at the Glasgow Westerwood Hotel & Golf Resort.

This event offers three parallel streams tailored to different roles within the practice team, including veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and those with a specific focus on emergency care. The structure allows delegates to select sessions most relevant to their day-to-day responsibilities.

Across the streams, the emphasis is on practical skills and clinical decision-making. Topics include recognising when referral is appropriate, managing emergency presentations, refining pain management strategies and developing nursing technical skills.

The day concludes with optional sessions, including a specialist Q&A or an update on CPR techniques, allowing attendees to focus on areas most relevant to their practice.

Places are limited for both events, with booking available via the Vets Now CPD Events page.
