If you break out in cold sweats at the thought of having to perform a blood transfusion or would like to refresh your existing knowledge in this area, then this course is for you. The course is aimed at clinicians and nurses that would like to become more confident undertaking transfusions and gain knowledge to safely stock blood products, in-house.
The course will include the characteristics of the different plasma and red cell products, indications for their use, correct storage and in-house management to maintain optimal product quality and efficacy.
Whole blood collection and usage in dogs and cats will be explained, starting with donor selection and screening, progressing to how to collect useable blood donations safely.
This live and interactive, online course will also cover: recipient monitoring and recognition of potential adverse transfusion reactions and their management, the practices of autotransfusion and xenotransfusion and a brief overview of transfusions in other companion animal species.
