VetEdge Congress to bring two days of vet and nurse CPD to Exeter in 2026

Written by The Improve Team | 11 May 2026

Vet teams looking for broad, practice-relevant CPD in the South West will see a familiar event return with a new name in 2026, as VETcpd Congress is rebranded as VetEdge Congress.

The event will take place at Sandy Park, Exeter, on 29–30 September 2026, with veterinary, nursing, workshop and leadership streams designed to offer CPD for the whole practice team.

A familiar congress, with a new name

The organisers say the rebrand brings the congress in line with modern, forward-thinking 'The Veterinary Edge' brand, while retaining the same format: two days of in-person CPD, a trade exhibition, catering and networking at Sandy Park.

The venue, home of Exeter Chiefs, offers conference facilities across two floors, with lift access, on-site catering and free parking. Up to 14 hours of CPD will be available across both days, or seven hours for delegates attending for one day.

What’s on the programme?

The veterinary stream includes sessions across ophthalmology, orthopaedics, exotics, parasitology, dermatology, nutrition, surgery and wound management.

Day one topics include whether an eye needs enucleation, surgical management of chronic joint pain and osteoarthritis, E. cuniculi updates for vets, E. multilocularis, immune-mediated disease in dogs and cats, and risk-based lungworm prevention.

Day two includes sustainable dog food conversations with clients, non-healing ulcers, respiratory disease in rabbits and rodents, feline allergic syndrome, BOAS diagnosis and management, angular limb deformities and skin reconstruction.

The nursing stream has a similarly practical focus, covering endocrine nursing clinics, drains and tubes, parasite diagnostics, dermatology diet trials, neurological rabbit nursing, ophthalmology, wound preparation, osteoarthritis care, cardiac auscultation, weight clinics and palliative care for guinea pigs and rabbits.

Workshops will also run across both days, with a £10 fee per workshop. Topics include thoracic effusion imaging and drainage, “bargain basement” ophthalmology, suturing for nurses, basic abdominal ultrasound, surgical staplers and ultrasound-guided biopsies. Some workshops have limited delegate numbers.

SPVS Leadership & Management stream

SPVS will return for a third year with a separate Leadership & Management CPD stream. The draft programme is split into two themes: Operational and Financial Excellence on day one, and Optimising Communication and Improving Team Culture on day two.

Planned sessions include operational efficiency, conflict resolution, employment law updates, financial planning, practice accounts, succession and growth, and much more. We're also excited to see a whole session dedicated to making the most of a practice team, including when to upskill, refer, or get in peripatetic services.

The stream is aimed at practice owners, leaders, managers and team members involved in shaping how practices work. SPVS ticket holders can also access the wider congress, although main congress tickets do not include SPVS sessions.
