'The neuroscience of team leadership' at SPVS Congress 26th Feb 2026

Written by The Improve Team | 11 February 2026

Leadership and people management continue to be among the biggest challenges facing veterinary practices — and SPVS Congress 2026 reflects this with a strong programme focused on communication, culture and team performance.

One lunchtime session in particular will explore why some teams work seamlessly while others become fragmented or disengaged. Taking a neuroscience-led approach, the lecture examines how the human brain responds to pressure in modern veterinary workplaces, and how stress-driven “protect rather than connect” behaviours can shape team dynamics. The session encourages leaders to reflect on their own responses under pressure and consider how small changes in behaviour can have a disproportionate impact on morale, performance and collaboration.

This focus on people skills runs throughout the SPVS Congress 2026 timetable. Alongside the neuroscience-based leadership session, delegates can choose from a range of talks addressing communication, influencing behaviour, managing difficult conversations and building resilient teams — offering practice owners, managers and clinical leaders the chance to tailor their learning to the challenges they face day to day.

For veterinary professionals with responsibility for leading teams, SPVS Congress 2026 offers more than business strategy — it provides practical insight into the human factors that underpin sustainable practice growth and a positive workplace culture.
