CPD on Brucella canis in the UK: Practical guidance for teams

Written by The Improve Team | 6 March 2026

With Brucella canis continuing to present difficult conversations and clinical dilemmas in UK practice, a forthcoming evening CPD session aims to give vets clear, practical guidance on when to test, how to interpret results and how to respond proportionately.

The Brucella Breakdown: When to Test, When to Treat, When to Panic (Don’t Panic) is a two-hour in-person session led by Ian Wright, focusing on real-world decision-making for primary care teams.

Why attend?

Uncertainty around testing protocols, interpreting serology and managing positive cases can place pressure on both clinical teams and client relationships. In this session, Ian Wright MRCVS will be covering:

  • Which patients genuinely warrant testing
  • How to interpret results in context, including limitations of current diagnostics
  • Practical management considerations in general practice
  • Zoonotic risk and clear client communication
  • Where B. canis fits within screening strategies for imported dogs

The emphasis is on balanced, evidence-informed discussion — helping practices avoid both under-reaction and unnecessary alarm.

The course takes place on Tuesday 28 April 2026, 19:00–21:00, at The Imaging and Theory Lab, 14 Bowden Street, London, SE11 4DS.
