Veterinary Oncology Courses: A round-up of what we have available for vets and nurses
If you’ve got an interest in oncology, look no further than our veterinary oncology CPD. We’ve got such a range of oncology courses for both vets and veterinary nurses, sometimes it can be hard to choose! This round up compares the different veterinary oncology courses we have available, making it easier for you to choose your CPD!
For Vets
General Practitioner Certificate (GPCert) in Small Animal Oncology
For those who want to study for a certificate in veterinary oncology, we have this fantastic postgraduate certificate programme. It’s held entirely online, meaning you can work from home and to your own timescales as you complete the 12 modules that cover everything from basic cancer biology to the ins and outs of certain cancer types we see in pets. Delegates on this course have the option of taking the assessments for the GPCert in Oncology from ISVPS, resulting in a globally recognised postgraduate certificate and the postnominals that go with it.
Find out more about the GPCert in Small Animal Oncology starting in April 2025.
General Practitioner Certificate (GPCert) / Postgraduate Certificate (PgC) in Small Animal Surgery
While not strictly an oncology course, it’s worth us mentioning this veterinary postgraduate certificate programme, which has a dedicated surgical oncology module. One of our most popular certificates, delegates complete 23 modules before opting to take the assessments to achieve the GPCert from ISVPS and a final module and assessments to achieve the PgC from Harper Adams University.
The postgraduate certificate can be taken face-to-face (with theory delivered in a classroom setting), blended (with theory delivered online), or consolidated (with modules close together so it can be studied in just 5 months).
Find out more about the face-to-face Small Animal Surgery Certificate (you’ll need to join immediately as cut-off date is approaching), the blended Small Animal Surgery Certificate (starts in February), or the consolidated Small Animal Surgery Certificate (which starts in March).

For Veterinary Nurses/Paraprofessionals
Nurse Certificate (NCert) or Veterinary Paraprofessional Certificate (VPPCert) in Medical Nursing
While not strictly an oncology certificate, this 8-module online certificate course has a dedicated oncology nursing module. You’ll cover the diagnosis, treatment, and holistic care of pets with cancer, making this the perfect CPD for veterinary nurses with a high oncological case load. At the end of the course, delegates have the option of taking the assessments to achieve the ISVPS NCert (or VPPCert, if you’re a paraprofessional) – a highly respected veterinary nursing certificate that’s recognised all over the world.
