Securing the Future of Next Generation Veterinary Professionals
We were delighted to have helped veterinary students at Bristol Veterinary School gain valuable insights for their futures as veterinary professionals in a talk led yesterday by Dr Charlotte French MA VetMB BSc (ARCS) PGCVetEd FHEA MRCVS.
The free presentation was held in the institution’s Churchill Lecture Theatre where Dr French discussed her own veterinary career in practice and education, how students could craft their own career pathways and how to plan their CPD to meet RCVS requirements.
Dr French shared her research which was conducted online in 2020 and completed by 102 UK veterinary students. It revealed that 74% stated they were not aware of the CPD options available to them after graduation and a significant 98% said they were willing to be involved in extracurricular CPD if it was available.
Other methods that were discussed to help with career progression included training, both practical and theoretical, provided by Improve Veterinary Education and earning globally-recognised certificates which are accredited and awarded by the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS). Many of these certificates lead to RCVS Advanced Practitioner status.
Attendees were also entered into a raffle for a free annual subscription to Improve Veterinary Practice Membership to help the winner complete their first year of CPD in practice at no expense.
