A New Advanced Veterinary Dentistry Certificate for Pet Dental Health Month

13 February 2024 -

February marks Pet Dental Health Month, a reminder of the crucial role oral care plays in keeping our furry friends happy and healthy. In recognition of this awareness month, we have launched our ground-breaking Advanced Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery programme. Let’s find out more…

The Advanced Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery Certificate

This 18-module programme has been designed to revolutionise the way veterinary professionals approach pet dental healthCrafted by leading experts in the field, this comprehensive programme delves deep into advanced periodontal treatments, restorative dentistry, orthodontics, and complex maxillofacial surgeries, among other specialised areas. With a blend of face-to-face theory and practical skills modules using real-life cases, participants will gain invaluable insights and hands-on experience that can be immediately applied in practice.

Heading this pioneering programme is Alix Freeman DipEVDC, a European and RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dentistry, who emphasises its transformative impact:

“This course equips you with the knowledge and skills to perform advanced dentistry and oral surgery procedures confidently. Our passionate tutors provide the most up-to-date treatments in a state-of-the-art dental training lab, ensuring you gain the confidence to undertake complex procedures. This certificate is the first of its kind in the U.K. and is set to become highly sought after.”

Aidan McAlinden MVB, MSc, CertSAS, DipECVS, MRCVS, Academic and Content Director from Improve Veterinary Education, underscores the significance of advanced dental techniques:

“By employing cutting-edge techniques and equipment, veterinarians can diagnose and treat a wide range of dental issues in animals, ensuring comprehensive care and preventing systemic health issues. Advanced veterinary dentistry improves comfort, quality of life, and overall well-being for pets.”

Just like in humans, oral health is paramount for pets, with dental problems being the most commonly diagnosed body system-level problem in our patients according to the RVC’s VetCompass program. But it can be hard to provide good veterinary dental care in practice, and there are lots of barriers to pet owners accessing this care. An Advanced Certificate in Veterinary Dentistry can be helpful – highly qualified staff can encourage pet owners to see dental problems as serious and make them more likely to act on treatment recommendations.

In celebration of Pet Dental Health Month, we will also promote two open sessions, inviting veterinary professionals to explore the transformative power of advanced pet dental care. Join us as we delve into the latest innovations and techniques reshaping the landscape of veterinary dentistry and oral surgery.
