Featured Speaker – Dr Hannes Bergmann
Hannes graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna in 2001 and completed an internship at the School of Veterinary Medicine Hannover in Germany. Following research in perioperative pain therapy he achieved his Doctorate degree in 2003. He spent a year in small animal practice before taking up a three year residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Berne, Switzerland. He has worked in referral practice in the UK since 2007, specialising in all aspects of surgery, including orthopaedics, soft tissue and spinal surgery. He became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in July 2008.
Hannes says that, as a surgeon, he enjoys working with his hands and his mind. He also enjoys working under pressure and maintaining his concentration levels for the length of time sometimes required for complex surgery. During teaching, he enjoys the interaction with delegates and finds it particularly satisfying to watch them gain in confidence, carrying out procedures they had never thought they would be capable of.
