Veterinary CPR techniques set to improve for new vets in UK and Italy
This past April, Improve Veterinary Education welcomed the International Veterinary Students Association (IVSA) to its Swindon training facility. The occasion, which was supported also by Photon Surgical Systems, allowed Italian exchange and Bristol University students to learn the essentials of veterinary CPR.
The IVSA, found in all continents, enriches students’ skills as future veterinarians and is made up of several committees and working groups which raise awareness and share recent veterinary information and ideas. These groups include standing committees on animal welfare, wellness, veterinary education, One Health and working groups for alumni and career attributes.
The training the students received included triage of the emergency patient, practical session on central line placement, demonstration of essential equipment and an opportunity to learn veterinary CPR theory and apply it in practice. Students were also informed more about their career pathways for future progression by Improve Veterinary Education Head of Business Development for the UK and US, Dr Charlotte French.
Dr French said: “It has been a pleasure to see eager veterinary students with different backgrounds coming together to master the fundamentals of veterinary CPR. This vital information will prepare these students for emergency cases when they become fully fledged veterinarians in the near future, therefore improving the standard of CPR in both Britain and Greece. We wish all the students who took part the very best of luck with the next stages of their lifelong learning journey.”
Commenting on the day, Safiyyah Kader, Exchange Officer IVSA Bristol, stated that “Improve Veterinary Education were incredible hosts for us as part of our International Exchange in April 2023. We had informative and practical lectures on Triage, Central Line placement and CPR. All the staff were knowledgeable, professional and welcoming. The facilities were impressive and the students, both from Bristol and Messina, were grateful for the Vet Handbook, notepads, carry cases and the opportunity to learn with Improve Veterinary Education. Many of the students said they would consider Improve highly when making decisions about CPD and further learning in the future and some said that this was the best day of the exchange for them”.
Veterinary CPD provider Improve International offers several veterinary emergency courses, including vet nurse ECC certificates, veterinary emergency medicine and surgery certificates, and a range of excellent short practical CPD courses for vets and nurses on many emergency medicine and ECC subjects.
