With this advanced training programme in Feline Medicine, learn to handle more complex cases, build your diagnostic and problem-solving skills, and strengthen your approach to case management.  

The course is built around 15 modules, covering key topics and including three new wet and dry lab sessions that enable you to enhance your practical skills. Plus, there will be evidence-based analysis of clinical cases, diagnostic protocols and the most up-to-date treatments delivered by top specialists. 

This advanced training has been carefully crafted and is overseen by course director and renowned feline specialist, Dr Samantha Taylor BVetMed (Hons) CertSAM DipECVIM-CA MANZCVS FRCVS. 

What does the programme include? 

Each module is taught by experienced veterinary specialists, and covers the latest updates in feline medicine, with in-depth examination of the evidence behind treatment recommendations. 

 Advanced knowledge and skills will be gained from the modules covering body systems, physiology, pharmacology and clinical pathology. Case studies will be included in all modules and controversies discussed. There is the opportunity to practice diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in wet labs and hands on imaging with expert specialists 

 

Who is this programme suitable for? 

This advanced programme has been designed for those wanting to explore and expand their previous skills and gain a better insight into dealing with feline patient.  

Whether you want to enhance your skills as a general practitioner (we recommend five years in practice) or want to build on the knowledge gained from the ISVPS General Practitioner Certificate in Feline Practice and/or the ISVPS General Practitioner/Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Medicine, this programme is for you. 

 

Which advanced techniques can you learn? 

Our Advanced Certificate programmes are designed for veterinary surgeons who wish to deepen their knowledge in a particular subject. Examples of several skills covered in this advanced course include: 

  • Critical assessment of the feline patient from a historical and current perspective 

  • Developing a concise and clinically relevant problem list and selection of differential diagnoses based on the feline patient assessment and history 

  • Selection of appropriate diagnostic tests and procedures 

  • Devising an appropriate evidence-based treatment plan for feline patients, in line with their needs, including relevant scientific review 

This advanced training will also cover numerous medical areas, including: 

  • Toxicology and pharmacology 

  • Effect of stress on the development of sickness behaviour, including ‘Pandora Syndrome’ 

  • Detailed focus on FLUTD and particularly FIC, urinary tract infection and urolithiasis 

  • Effects of systemic disease on the heart, cardiac biomarkers and how to interpret them 

  • MRI and CT as advanced imaging techniques 

  • Endoscopy of the gastrointestinal tract (upper and lower) 

  • Recent developments in feline oncology

Qualifications

Our Feline Medicine Advanced programme offers you a comprehensive range of structured learning. The course will give you new knowledge and skills to take back to practice, and you can work towards a recognised qualification. Our advanced programmes are not only for those who have gained a previous qualification, such as an ISVPS General Practitioner Certificate, a Postgraduate Certificate by Harper Adams University, or an equivalent, but is also suited for experienced professionals wanting to advance their feline medicine knowledge. 

We recommend you have at least five years’ experience of working in practice before taking this course – talk to one of our team to find out more.

By attending the full online structured programme and following successful assessment, including an exam, you can gain the GPAdvCert awarded by the International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS).
