Description

This Spinal Surgery course for veterinarians is divided into four modules: two introductory and two advanced, which combine theoretical knowledge with practical application, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of spinal surgery procedures tailored to individual learning paths. 

This course also focuses on managing spinal trauma and instability using the Pedicle Screw/Rod (PSRod) system. It includes techniques for thoracolumbar, lumbosacral, and cervical spine stabilization, 3D printing for implant positioning, and complication management. Hands-on practicals on models and cadavers cover key fixation techniques, with a SpinoFIX system demonstration included.

At the end of the course, the participants will be able to:

  • Interprets findings of the neurological examination and spinal lesion localisation
  • Choose the appropriate imaging modality
  • Understand the basic pathophysiology of common spinal diseases in dogs
  • Get familiar with the most commonly used neurosurgical instruments
  • Perform basic spinal decompressive procedures
  • Get familiar with basic fixation techniques at the LS level
