Overview
This face-to-face course provides a practical and clinically focused overview of the diagnostic tools essential for oncology patients. Delegates will learn how to obtain and evaluate high-quality cytology samples, recognize key cellular features of benign and malignant tumours, and apply cytological criteria for diagnosing conditions such as mast cell tumours, sarcomas, carcinomas, and lymphomas. Modern techniques including flow cytometry and PCR-based tests will also be explored, with discussion on their benefits and limitations.
In addition, the course covers the role of diagnostic imaging in cancer staging and management. Participants will review best practices for radiography, ultrasonography, CT, MRI, and PET-CT, including their advantages and limitations in staging different tumour types. Practical applications such as sentinel lymph node mapping and image-guided biopsy techniques will also be addressed, highlighting their value and potential complications.
By combining cytology with imaging, this course equips veterinary professionals with the diagnostic expertise needed to improve cancer detection, staging, and treatment planning in practice.
